1) Regulates Body Temperature

This is the most important point, especially in Singapore, when we are living in such a hot climate.  Body temperature plays a major role in fitness elements such as muscle contractions, joint flexibility, and even your heart rate during exercise. The only way to get rid of the heat from our body is through perspiration and urination. Therefore, it is essential to ensure an adequate intake of water to regulate body temperature effectively.

2) Flushes Toxins From Kidney

When we were young, we were taught to check if we were drinking enough water through the color of our urine. The rationale being, that we’ll know how much toxins we are flushing out from the body. Consuming an adequate amount of water enhances the circulation of water throughout our bodies, including vital organs like the kidneys. This allows the kidneys to wash off and remove toxins from the body.

3) Reduces Fat Percentage

There are many studies to prove that water spikes up metabolism & improves your fat-burning rate. There is a great scientific explanation for it, however, I’ll do a simplified explanation. Metabolizing fat (Breaking down fat) is a primary function of the liver, however, the liver can only focus on its job if the kidney does its job. As mentioned above, the Kidney flushes off the toxins with the help of water. When there isn’t enough water in the body, the Kidney is unable to do its job alone and the liver comes in to help. Therefore, the Liver can’t focus on metabolizing the fat!

The importance of water in fueling the body should not be underestimated. When considering athletic performance and maintaining proper hydration while participating in sports activities, there is added value in consuming water that has been treated, such as Alkaline Water.

Alkaline Water is regular water that has been alkalized to assist in balancing body acidosis. This offers numerous advantages to the human body, as illustrated in an infographic released by the esteemed local Water Company, AOX Water.

Today, we’re diving deep into the fascinating world of feinting, a versatile technique employed not only in boxing but also in sports like football, hockey, and handball. Ever wondered why and how feints work their magic in the boxing ring? Think of feinting as the art of ‘faking’ your moves, a tactical maneuver that confounds and distracts your opponents, making them second-guess their every defensive move.

Join us on this journey as we unravel the secrets of feinting in boxing, offering insights that can elevate your game to a whole new level.

Check out our tutorial video below for easy-to-follow demonstrations of basic feinting techniques using your punches. We’ll also touch on another aspect of feinting: using your footwork to trick your opponent into thinking you’re moving one way while you quickly shift in another direction with your front foot. (We might even make a tutorial video about this soon!)

Feinting can be a valuable strategy, especially when you’re up against someone who focuses a lot on defending themselves. By pretending with your jabs, you can figure out what kind of defense your opponent is planning to use. This knowledge allows you to follow up with the right punches or counter their moves, surprising your opponent in the process. These unexpected punches can lead to a knockout or, at the very least, throw off your opponent’s game plan for a while.

As mentioned in the title, I believe that Feinting is an often overlooked movement in Boxing, which surprises me considering its immense power. Boxers tend to underutilize this technique, but in my opinion, it truly has a lot to offer. You can see these technique heavily used in professional fights and even in big competitions such as the Sea Games and Olympics.

As you embrace the art of feinting and integrate it into your boxing repertoire, remember that mastery comes with practice. Incorporate feints seamlessly into your sparring sessions and shadow boxing routines, letting them flow naturally. By doing so, you’ll not only surprise your opponents but also gain a deeper understanding of their defenses. These ‘surprise punches’ have the potential to disrupt your opponent’s game plan or even lead to a knockout. So, don’t hesitate to explore the power of feinting in your boxing journey.

Today, we dive deep into a term that resonates not just in the world of boxing, but also in kickboxing, MMA, and Muay Thai – Shadow Boxing. It’s a phrase echoed in gyms worldwide, and if you’ve trained at KOS, you know I never skip a session without it.

But what’s the big deal, you ask? Why dedicate time to shadow boxing when there are modern equipment, coaches, and various drills at your disposal? Some might roll their eyes at the mere mention of it, but trust me, this post will shed light on the incredible power concealed within Shadow Boxing. So, join me on this journey as we unravel its secrets and unlock your full potential!

1) Perfect Exercise to help you warm up or cool-down

Shadow Boxing is an effective warm-up exercise that offers benefits not only to the body but also to the mind. It allows individuals to apply and reinforce previously learned techniques, while also promoting movement and engaging in punches that mirror the actual sport. As a warm-up option, it stands out from mere running routines.

In addition, shadow boxing can also serve as a cooling-down activity. This time, it provides a more relaxed experience for both muscles and the mind. Rather than executing fast-paced, forceful punches, it can be approached as a way to refresh and refine one’s skills. By practicing and executing movements at a slower pace, individuals can focus on specific details or nuances they encountered during the training session.

2) Improves Flow

One common issue many beginners face, let it be bag drills or sparring, stopping with one or two punches. Put simply, there seems to be a lack of flow in the different actions. The reason is, that there is no muscle memory of connecting a flow of punches. To overcome this, simply engage in shadow boxing, since there are no obstacles in the way of your punch, you can add in a few more punches to make it flow smoothly.

 

3) Creates Visualization

Similar to chess, in boxing, you improve when you visualize ahead. Visualizing ahead allows you to plan on what you should and what you shouldn’t be doing. Shadow boxing forces you to think of possible scenarios, which leads to correct follow-ups.

You can also try to adapt to new fighting styles with your Shadow Boxing Drills. For instance, you know that your opponent is a southpaw, therefore, there will be a few adaptations to take note such as where you move, what punches to throw, and even the entire game plan. Add those changes and practice it during your Shadow Boxing.

4) Enhance Movements

Everyone learns how to throw a Jab, however, it is through continuous practice that one can refine and strengthen their technique. Shadow boxing exercises not only improve overall movement but also assists in refining crucial aspects such as head movement, punch execution, and footwork.  While you are shadow boxing, you’ll know what works for you and what doesn’t. Focus on what works for you and make that your strength. In short, Shadow Boxing is a great technique developer!

 

5) Lifetime Exercise

As time goes on, there could be some reasons that may make you want to hold back from punching the bag because it can be a bit hard on your body. Age might stop you from participating in sparring, but you can always keep doing Shadow Boxing no matter how old you are. It won’t hurt you or cause any injuries if you do it correctly. Plus, it’s a great way to get some cardio in!

If you’ve ever wondered when you’ll move on to the next big thing in your training, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too, questioning my coach silently. But here’s the secret that coaches across all sports will tell you: ‘Master what you’ve learned first.’ In this article, we’re diving deep into the essential world of correct technique, a fundamental key to your sports journey’s success. Similar to everyone, my first boxing training was about footwork. My Coach, T Balasundram from U2Can Boxing Gym, taught me the right stance in boxing and explained how important footwork is in boxing. After correcting me, he put me in front of a mirror to practice my movements.

The same drill went on for WEEKS (Almost 2 months if I remember correctly)! I had to report to training, warm up, circuit program, and then practice my movements in front of the mirror. Back then, being a 13-year-old teenager, I was frustrated. I am in boxing, but have not learned my punches yet, I even had a thought to stop attending the training. That’s when my coach came and told me my footwork had improved and taught me my first few punches.

Throughout my boxing journey, I’ve been confident & proud of my footwork. Thanks to my coach and those ‘boring’ sessions in front of the mirror. When I was practicing, I didn’t realize the power of it, but it was a ‘Muscle-Memory’ training that helped me till now. I’ve stopped training for about 5 years, but whatever I’ve learned and trained is stored in my ‘Muscle Memory’. That’s the importance of correct technique!

Bananas are a rich source of carbohydrates, which are essential for providing the body with energy. It is not uncommon to feel a lack of energy during training or experience fatigue after exercising, often due to irregular or unbalanced eating habits, such as following a low carbohydrate diet.

As our understanding of nutrition continues to evolve, it is important to shift our perspective on eating habits. Rather than viewing it as traditional “dieting,” we should instead consider it as a well-rounded nutrition plan.
